January 1st, 2000, the first day of a new century. The date is somewhat arbitrary when considering grouping things together. Pick a day then group going forward. Being the first day of a new century (or new millennium if you prefer), Dark Discussions decides to bring a list of some of their favorite horror/genre films since the year 2000 and discuss each of them in a condensed format.
Cohosts Chris, Eric, Mike, and Philip independently put together their collection of the best horror films of the past twelve years but also present some of their individual favorites. Fans of genre cinema will see mainstream Hollywood successes, independent productions, and foreign film darlings. Some films like the James Wan/Leigh Whannell classic Saw are re-evaluated as individual standalone films and how they fit into the horror genre. Productions from Australia, the UK, France, New Zealand, South Korea, Japan, Norway, the USA, among others are discussed. As an ongoing series, Part 1 presents just some of the forty potential films listed as necessary canon of any genre fan.
To wrap up the episode, director/screenwriter Rufus Chaffee and actor/producer Mike Pfaff discuss their new feature length horror film, The Muse, which opened up in April 2012 and is now playing the festival circuit.
